A skateboard company

Overview

Following an initial brand design project, I’ve worked closely with the owner of the business on a variety of creative projects, from design of skateboard graphics and apparel, to promotional materials for digital and print, exterior signage and video/animation.

I also collaborate with other creatives and professionals to produce videos, arrange events, studio photoshoots, and more.

The core ethos of the store is of a workshop or servicing/repair shop.

The visual direction is inspired by functional design from mechanics invoices, pink slips, and heritage manufacturing with a nod to military collateral such as M.R.E (meal ready-to-eat).

There is a sense of humour in much of the creative with a respectful appreciation of heritage advertising – such as with our “Great Elixir” 24 hour steeped cold brew “traditional method”. Presented in a medicine bottle.

His concepts and visual acumen, gives me real confidence in my brand.”

The physical material is a deep passion of the owner, who studied the subject as part of a furniture design course at university.

We take pride in the degrading nature of the stamped cards – these are G.F. Smith stock which was chosen for tactile sensory experience.

A heavy duplexed card is sturdy and gets a noticeable response when handed out.

Skateboarding is inherently experimental, and my approach to the promotional communications has been a space to experiment with form and finish.

There is often a sense of grungy, lo-fi analogue formats, and a subtle narrative thread I’ve encouraged is for promotional graphics to “age” over the course of the campaign.

I’m also responsible for setting photographic styles and all photography on this page was shot by myself, unless clearly stated. The treatment is intended to feel analogue and naturalistic.

The shoes are not my design, of course, but the brick is a feature of the GSC footwear photoshoots and we have since produced small wax blocks from a 3D model of the brick that I produced in Blender.

Seed packs influenced this particular piece celebrating the first anniversary of the business.

Fruits of labour was the concept for this 5 year anniversary graphic that was requested by customers to be produced apparel.
